Tango Fundamentals Classes in Wimberley

Practice, practice, practice...
Alex Long dancing with Heather Morrow in Aspen, Colorado...

Tango 101 :: Tango for Absolute Beginners
Monday Evenings
March 2, 9, 16, 23
April 6, 13, 20, 27
Class :: 6:30pm to 7:30pm
Guided Practica :: 7:30pm to 8:00pm
Location :: Healthy Living By Design | 14500 Ranch Road 12, Suite 14 | Wimberley, Texas 78676
Cost :: $50 per person for the four class series

You will learn the fundamental aspects of Argentine Tango (not ballroom tango), including posture, balance, axis, weight transfer, the embrace, the walk, and other primary elements of this beautiful and elegant dance.

The classes are taught with an emphasis on "milonguero style" or social tango as it is danced in Buenos Aires to this day. Both open and close embrace will be introduced.

There will also be discussion of the colorful history, culture, and music of Argentine tango interspersed throughout the classes.

The class material is progressive, with each class building on the prior class material, so it's important to attend each class.

No partner is required, although it's better if you can bring along a friend or significant other, of course. Leather soled shoes are best. Ladies - please avoid pointed toe shoes and shoes without ankle straps. Gentlemen - please avoid cowboy boots, but they are better than running shoes.

No prior dance experience is required.

Classes will be taught by Alex Long, a new Wimberley resident (recently relocated here from Aspen, Colorado) and tango dancer of 4-1/2 years. Alex's primary teaching influence is Gustavo Naveira y Giselle Anne of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Alex has studied intensively with them, as well as numerous other top international tango teachers. (See Alex's detailed bio below.)

Class size is limited, so please contact Healthy Living by Design to reserve your spot. Their number is 512 847 8026.

Contact Alex at 512 364 8104 for more information.

Note that Alex is also available for private lessons.

Also, if you would like to be added to my email list, please leave your name and email address in a comment below. I will grab the address and delete the comment. Thanks.

  1. Hello fellow tango dancers!

    I think you would be interested in KnowTango.com -- the world's first wiki-tango map where anyone can add or edit events.

    If you see an event that has wrong information or is missing, make sure to fix it. The site is totally free with no ads, so hopefully it's something the worldwide (and your local) community can use and enjoy :-).

    Take a look and let me know what you think!
